Johnson, Donald James Sr.
87, of Goodyear, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday June 19, 2013. Born in Canton, Ohio, The Johnson family moved to Arizona in 1956 where they raised 5 children. Preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Margaret, his eldest daughter Susan Rae McColm and his grand-daughter Amanda Nicole Johnson., he is survived by children, Donald J Johnson Jr,, (Kari) of Cedar City UT., Rebecca (Becki) Johnson of Glendale, Clark Johnson (Kristine) of Goodyear and Joseph Johnson Sr. of Payson; grandchildren, Dr. Clark McDonough (Veronica) of Georgia, Vickie McGee, Krista Johnson, Donald Johnson III., Clifford Johnson (Jennifer), Rachel Brockway (Brett) of Phoenix and Christopher McDonough (Amy), Joseph Johnson Jr, (Aricka) and Ethan Johnson of Payson. Taylor Adair (George) of Buckeye and 11 Great-Grandchildren. Donald was in WWII in 1945 and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Arrowhead awards. He proudly displayed his metals and told many stories of his service. He was wounded but made his way home back to his sweetheart and they were married in Ohio in 1946. He was a Postal worker for 50 years and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He loved being around his family and providing everything for them. He was an excellent cook making favorites such as homemade bread and pizza, enchiladas as well as many other family favorites. Services will be on Thursday June 27, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Chapel, 926 S Litchfield Rd, Goodyear with visitation from 2:00/3:00 pm and services at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at the National Memorial Cemetery. Our family would like to thank Twin Hearts group home (Ron & Tess) for the excellent care they provided our father for the last 4 years and to Desert Oasis Hospice in his final months.
