Obituary Condolences

Edwin Cooperstein, 80, of Scottsdale passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2006. He was born on May 16, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Charles & Minnie Cooperstein. Mr. Cooperstein served in the Army Signal Corp. in the European Theatre during WWII. He was a graduate of Queens College later receiving his masters in communications from NYU. Mr. Cooperstein was a television director at WATV Channel 13 in New York directing Open End with David Suskind. He then went on to be involved in the creative and business aspect of television broadcasting industry. He founded and managed WNJU-TV Channel 47 in New York in 1965. Mr. Cooperstein founded KNXV-TV Channel 15 in Phoenix in 1979; and was president of the Arlington Broadcast Group from 1979-1986 supervising in the creation and operation of commercial TV stations in Birmingham, AL, Boston, MA, and Milwaukee, WI. Survivors include his wife, Sondra Cooperstein of Scottsdale; three children, Jeffrey Cooperstein of Scottsdale, Matthew Cooperstein of Los Angeles, CA, and Alison Cooperstein of Scottsdale; four grandchildren; and two nieces, Suzanne Swift and Michelle Breit both of Scottsdale. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2006 in Green Acres Cemetery. Contributions in Mr. Cooperstein's honor may be made to the Walter Cronkite School of Broadcasting at ASU or to the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements by Sinai Mortuary of Arizona.
