George Nackard

Phoenix - George Nackard passed away peacefully at home Monday, Sept. 10, 2018 at the age of 92. George was born in Flagstaff on Sept.1, 1926 to Lebanese immigrants KJ and Marie Nackard. He was the youngest of seven and the last surviving child of that generation. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After discharge from military service in 1945, he worked as a Steward for the American Legion and later that year he started two of his own businesses, Sunnyside Tavern and Western Liquor Store, and partnered in a bar, El Rancho Grande. He was a life member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Flagstaff Elks. In 1957 he founded his business, Consolidated Investment Company, Inc. He owned and operated many businesses throughout Arizona, mostly in Flagstaff, including convenience stores, bars, restaurants, health clubs, motels, and gas stations and over the years employed many hundreds of people. Mr. Nackard was also active in land development and commercial rentals and developed many of the businesses along Milton Road in Flagstaff. He is survived by his current wife, Karen; children, Joseph (Alma), Rose, and Nyla (Mike) Wommack; five grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. Those that knew George, know he always did things his way and there was rarely a dull moment. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Keeping with George's wishes, there will be no services.
