Gerald A. Doyle, Jr. September 20, 1922 - April 12, 2007 Gerald A. Doyle, Jr., 84, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2007 in Clemson, South Carolina. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy DeVaughn "Dev" Doyle, daughters; Claudia Redfern (Kurt, deceased), Gwen Jones (Ron), Trish Kossick (Tom), stepchildren; Deborah Zupcak and Douglas Dent, and eleven grandchildren. Mr. Doyle was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia de Laval. Jerry graduated from Western Reserve, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1946. He enlisted in the US Army and served in WWII. He later joined the US Navy and retired as Lieutenant Commander. In 1951 he received a Masters Degree from Harvard School of Architecture. From 1951 through 1964 the Doyles lived in Canal Zone, Panama, practicing architecture. 1964 through 2006 Jerry was principal architect of Gerald A. Doyle and Associates. Jerry's exacting standards for authenticity and documentation have produced an admirable record of excellence. Jerry was awarded The American Institute of Architects Certificate of Fellowship "Fellows" in 1986 for his notable contributions to the advancement of the profession of architecture. In 1989 Jerry was awarded the Governor's Award for Historic Preservation in recognition of being a leader in historic preservation. He directed the authentic and sensitive restoration of Arizona's most prominent historic properties, including the Arizona State Capitol, the Carnegie Public Library, the Corpstein Duplex, and the Evans House. In January, 2006, Jerry married Dev, his former girlfriend in 1942. The past sixteen months have been some of Jerry's happiest and his daughters are thankful to Dev for what she has given Jerry. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial contribution to ASU Foundation in support of the Gerald A. Doyle Papers, in care of Robert Spindler, University Archivist, ASU Libraries, Box 871006, Tempe, AZ 85287-1006. Memorial services will be held Friday, April 20, 2007, at 1:30 p.m., Brophy Chapel, 4701 N. Central Avenue, Phoenix, AZ.
