Phoenix - 1920-2018

Hilda Baker Rubel died July 21st, 2018, at the age of 98. She was born February 29, 1920, in Meridian Mississippi where she grew up. She moved to Phoenix Arizona in 1955, where she spent the remainder of her life.

She was preceded in death by her husband Colonel George Rubel, her son, John Baker Rubel, and her daughter, Beverly Ann Vawter.

She is survived by her grandson, Kenneth Wesley Vawter of Phoenix Arizona, her son in law, Ronald Vawter of Phoenix Arizona, her nephew, Frank Douglas Baker of Gulfport Mississippi, her nieces, Rita Baker Hester, of Newport Beach, California, and Kendra Baker Moody of Daytona Beach, Florida, and longtime friend and caretaker, John Whitley of Phoenix Arizona.

Hilda was a beloved member of All Saints Episcopal Church of Phoenix Arizona, where she served in the Daughters of the King, and Sages.

She was a member and Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star Phoenix Chapter No. 5, later consolidating with Scottsdale Chapter No. 43. She served as Worthy Grand Matron in 1976-1977.

Hilda was a member of the Reserve Officers Association League (ROAL). She served as President on both National and Department of Arizona levels. She hosted many meetings, luncheons, and celebrations in her home.

She belonged to the Supreme Assembly of the Social Order of the Beauceant, enjoying many Pot Luck dinners over the years.

The family wishes to thank Sage Hospice of Scottsdale Arizona, and Coco's Assisted Living of Phoenix Arizona.

Hilda was loved and will be missed by all who knew her. She will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery next to her beloved husband, Colonel George Kenneth Rubel. She lived her life with Grace, and is now in the presence of God.
