James Schroeder Obituary

Schroeder, James Allen "Jim"
71, of Phoenix passed away on March 6, 2011. Jim peacefully passed away surrounded by his family. He was born on Sept. 5, 1939, in Hamilton, Ohio to Jesse Schroeder Sr and June Tenbusch. He and his family moved to Phoenix in 1962. Jim worked for Smith Pipe & Steel for several years and spent the next 30 years working for Allied Signal as a tool & die maker before he retired. in the early 1960's Jim raced his top fuel dragster at the Beeline Raceway and in the years thereafter was a collector of drag racing memorabilia. His eclectic interests also included ham radios, military history, gardening, camping, and attending drag races with his brothers and friends. While outwardly disdaining any charitable feelings towards them, he was also a secret benefactor of stray neighborhood cats. Jim is survived by his wife, Nel; daughter Jenne Hardin-Smith; stepson Tony Bell; sister Nancy Settle and brothers Alfred, Dale, Kenny and Jesse; and his beloved grandchildren Delaney and Kenji. Services will be held March 18 at Glendale Memorial Park Cemetery.

Nel and Jennifer,
I am so sorry for your loss. Jim truly had one of softest hearts of anyone I have ever known. He also had one of the most inquisitive minds, especially for history. I can still hear him "I think that is fascinating."

Love,
Sandi Schroeder
