When World War II began, her family moved to Mesa, AZ in 1942 where she lived the remainder of her life. She has served the Buddhist Churches of America, Endowment Foundation of the BCA, Mesa Fine Arts, Ikebana of AZ, Urasenke School of Tea Ceremony, and has been distinguished by the Japanese American Citizens League "The Gold Saguaro Tribute Award" for her service. In 2006 she was honored by being named an "Arizona Cultural Keeper" for her outstanding contributions to the community.

An advocate and patron of the arts, Janet has supported various taiko (Japanese drumming groups) and Mesa's Symphony of the Southwest. In honor of her late husband, her endowment to the Mesa Art Center in 2003 resulted in naming its largest theater the "Tom and Janet Ikeda Theater".
