Dr. John Post Obituary
Dr. John Post

Phoenix - On July 15th John Post passed away of natural causes in his Phoenix apartment. He has been referred to as a man of many colors; a caregiver, mentor, pioneer, provider, a beacon of hope and a legend just to name a few.

John was the son of Reverend Winfield Edgar Post and Benita Mae Bowers, born in Hastings, Nebraska in 1945. At the age of 12 the family moved to Wisconsin and he later attended the University of Wisconsin. After graduating medical school in 1971, he came to Maricopa Medical center for his Internship and then proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Francis Marion and USS El Paso. Following his Naval service John came back to Arizona and completed his residency and began his 47 year career in Internal Medicine. In a time full of fear and prejudice John dedicated his life and shaped the way that HIV/AIDS patients are cared for with the founding of the McDowell Healthcare Center. John also volunteered yearly for Camp Incredible, a family HIV camp that held a special place in his heart. John was an integral part in providing Ryan White grants to Arizona patients and has received many awards for all his achievements, including being an American Fellow. To say John was passionate about providing quality care and opportunities for the HIV community would be an understatement. John was an active member of the Trinity Cathedral and contributed to many of their outreach programs from helping the homeless to providing backpacks for kids within the parish. When he had free time you could find him riding the light rail, going to the farmers markets, or dining on some eclectic cuisine.

John was preceded in death by his parents and he is survived by Starlyn (Yarbrough) Post and their 2 children, Catherine(Jim) Becker and Elizabeth(Travis) Aldrich, his 4 grandchildren, Cassidy, Cheyann, Matthew, and Taylor, his sister Mary Buckley, and many other family, friends, and patients who loved and appreciated him greatly.

The Legacy of John will be celebrated at a funeral mass on August 25th, at 10:30 in the morning at the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Phoenix, and then will have a memorial service at the Parson's center following. Honor him by coming with an eccentric tie, red ribbon, Wisconsin gear, funky Hawaiian shirt, or anything that reminds you of the man he was.
