Johnny Mercer Obituary
Johnny Mercer

Globe - Johnny Mercer, a lifelong resident of Globe, AZ, died peacefully at home on July 31, 2018. He was 95.

He joined the navy in WWII and served as an electrician on the aircraft carrier Salerno Bay. After the navy he started a family earth-moving business that eventually grew to employ over a hundred people. Alongside his construction company he operated a fleet of buses before retiring in 2012.

He provided the grading for many community projects, several ball fields, a swimming pool, and Holy Angels Parochial School. He enjoyed being the first to try something new. He liked redesigning or adding on to his earth-movers. In the 1980s he built a tailings excavator for the mines.

He loved music, played the trumpet in several bands and was a member of the Globe city band for over fifty years.

He is survived by his six children, twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are made through Lamonts Mortuary of Globe. Visitation begins at 9:00, Rosary at 10:00, and Mass will be at 10:30 on Saturday, August 11, all at Holy Angels' Church. After internment at the Globe Cemetery, a luncheon will be held at the Holy Angels' Church Hall on Maple Street across from the church.
