Kathryn (Kate) Lynn Culver Rich

Gilbert - Kathryn (Kate) Lynn Culver Rich passed away peacefully at home on January 18, 2021 after a long, hard-fought battle with lung cancer. Kate was the beloved wife of Andy Rich of Gilbert, AZ and the mother of Brady Rich. Kate also leaves behind her parents, Donald and Peg Culver of Essex Junction, VT and Mesa, AZ; her sister, Julie Boone (Kevin) of Bow, NH; and her brother, Jim Culver (Cathy) of Chandler, AZ. She was the daughter-in-law of Lou Rich of Scottsdale, AZ and sister-in-law of Jonathan Rich (Sheila) of Omaha, NE. She was the adored aunt of Brianna and Ally Boone; Brett Culver; Alex and Zach Rich; and the mom by love to Breanna Carpenter. She leaves behind many other aunts, uncles, and cousins who all loved her deeply. She was a cherished friend and colleague to many. Kate graduated from Essex Junction High School in 1988 and the University of VT in 1992 with a degree in social work. She worked as a medical social worker in VT for several years until she decided to go to law school. She attended California Western School of Law in San Diego and graduated in 2001. While in law school, she met her husband, Andy, through one of her best friends, Cassie. After law school, she moved to Phoenix, AZ to begin her career. Kate and Andy married in 2004 in Stowe, VT. They welcomed Brady in November 2005. Kate was an accomplished attorney who loved being an advocate for those who needed a voice. She worked for the Arizona Attorney General, the Office of the Legal Advocate and then had her own practice for a few years. In 2018, she joined the Office of the Legal Defender where she continued to work until her death. She was a compassionate, hard-working attorney who was committed to helping abused and neglected children. Although she lived a relatively short life, Kate lived life to the fullest. She always had a smile on her face and made every day count. She loved to travel with Andy and Brady. They enjoyed many family vacations, including their favorite trip to Hawaii in 2017. After being diagnosed with cancer, Kate continued to travel and make special memories with her family. Extended family vacations included trips to ME, NH, MA and VT to see her family and friends, and a special trip to the NC Outer Banks the summer before she passed away with her family. Kate loved the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and particularly enjoyed traveling to St. Louis to see the Red Sox play in the World Series in 2013 with her dad. Kate fought her cancer with courage, strength and grace. She didn't let cancer take away her positivity and fighting spirit. She continued to live her life on her terms. She created the Kindness Project to inspire people to remember to be kind to others especially during difficult times. Kate's Kindness Project will be carried on in her honor. Kate's greatest pride and joy in life was her son, Brady. She loved to talk about him and her face would light up whenever she told a story about him. She was Brady's biggest advocate and was a champion for Autism Awareness. A small family memorial will be held in Gilbert, AZ on February 27, 2021. The memorial service will be live-streamed with access information provided on Kate's Caring Bridge and Facebook pages at a later date. Celebration of Life gatherings are planned in AZ and VT for later this year with details to follow. Kate's family requests donations to AZ Friends of Foster Care and AZ Pathway to Work in lieu of flowers. https://www.affcf.org/youwinwewin/ https://azpathwaytowork.org/ Click on Donate
