Scottsdale - Lowell Carsten was born in Minneapolis, MN on September 29, 1936 to Fred and Grace Carsten. Hall of Fame sprint car owner and Arizona racing Icon, Lowell Carsten took a checkered flag ending his battle with Parkinson's Disease on August 15, 2018. Born in Minnesota, Lowell spent nearly his entire lifetime in the valley of the sun.

Lowell was survived by many family members including 2 sons, Lance (Ann) and Paul, a daughter, Gloria Weddle (Michael), 2 step sons, Chuck Bergschneider and Bill Bergschneider (Carla), 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on September 16 at 2 pm at the Arizona Open Wheel Racing Museum in Phoenix.

Lowell's automotive business and dirt track auto racing were deeply ingrained in his life. Lowell wore many hats in the business and sport for decades. Lowell will be primarily remembered in the racing community as a championship sprint car owner, auto parts & machine shop owner, racing components and supplies shop owner, track flagman and association official. But to some he will be remembered as "Dad".
