Maria Salapska Obituary
Salapska, Maria
Maria Salapska passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. She was 60. Deeply loved by her family and a multitude of friends, she was widely respected by her colleagues for her intellect, professionalism, and willingness to serve. She mentored many attorneys and law students through transitional phases in their careers. She was passionate about her profession, literature, language and music. Often described as "a force of nature," her love of life and joyous approach to new opportunities was an inspiration to all who worked with her. She earned her M.A. in Linguistics in 1977 from Eötvös Lorand University in Budapest and her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 1998. She then served as Judicial Clerk to Hon. Harold A. Kuskin, New Jersey Superior Court, Tax Division before relocating to Phoenix in 1999. She continued her work as Judicial Clerk to Hon. Roslyn O. Silver, United States District Court, District of Arizona, before joining the firm of Brown & Bain (now Perkins Coie.) In 2006 she formed her own practice, which allowed her more time to pursue her passion for volunteer work. Her indomitable spirit drove her to leadership positions in the Lorna E. Lockwood Inn of Court and the St. Thomas More Society where she served as president. She was also a member of the Arizona Women Lawyers Association and served on the State Bar of Arizona Legal Services Committee, Ethics Committee and Committee on Arbitration of Fee Disputes. Her aptitude for teaching led to faculty positions on many State Bar CLE programs and ultimately to an adjunct faculty position at the Phoenix School of Law. Maria is survived by her husband Zoltan Gelleri, her daughter Joanna Salapska-Gelleri, and her mother Jane Poszepczynska. A funeral mass will be held at St. Francis Xavier Church 4715 N Central Ave Phoenix, AZ on Wednesday, April, 25, 2012 at 4:00 pm with visitation from 2:00-3:30 pm at Hansen Chapel at 8314 N.7th St. Phoenix, AZ .
