Marla Kay Prenovost

Peoria - Peoria - Marla Kay Prenovost (Shanklin), 74, passed away June 19th, 2020. Marla was born in Monte Vista, Colorado to Ray and Sarah Alice Shanklin on January 25th, 1946. Marla Kay grew up in the Phoenix area, amongst close knit immediate and extended family. Time was spent between Arizona and Colorado as her entire family were involved in the Ciruli Brothers produce business. She attended Madison Rose Lane elementary school, and upon graduating from Central High School, attended ASU, studying Business Administration, where she met and married Paul W. Prenovost in 1965.

Marla Kay worked for the law firm of Jennings Strouss as a legal secretary, up until the arrival of their first child, Lisa Marie Prenovost in 1966. At that point, Marla dedicated herself to being a homemaker. Jon Michael Prenovost arrived in 1969. Marla was a skilled seamstress. She established a personalized alterations business which offered in-home fittings. Realizing that many of her clients could not travel, she then established Forget-Me-Knot, a personal shopping and delivery service. Her husband's employment forced the family to move to Farmington, N.M. in 1975, but she and Paul and the kids returned to Arizona in 1978, where they settled in Snowflake, AZ until June of 2019.

Marla was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed many enduring and lifelong friendships while living in Snowflake for 41 years, and her grandsons were her absolute pride and joy. She was a staunch advocate for students with special needs in the Snowflake school district until 1996, and served at her local Parish, Our Lady of the Snow Catholic church, over the years in many different capacities.

From childhood, Marla always had a love for birds, which eventually turned into a highly successful exotic bird breeding business. Kiki's Teil Farm was in operation 12 years, serving the entire White Mountain community. After the breeding business closed in 2001, she continued to enjoy the seasonal hummingbirds that would visit her property every year, tapping on her windows for their daily feeding of her very special syrup she would make.

Marla is preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her loving husband of 55 years, Paul W. Prenovost, children; Lisa M. Moore (husband William E. Moore), Jon M. Prenovost (wife Tina Prenovost), grandchildren: Tyler W. Moore (wife Stacia Moore), and Trevor Moore (engaged to Abigail Raber). She also leaves behind her brother Chuck Ciruli, sister Pam Schiller, and sister and brother-in-law Vickie and Lowell Hart, as well as close friends Bonnie Heal, Dawn Riepel, Chris Warner, and Misty and Josh Brimhall. In lieu of flowers, you may make a memorial contribution in Marla's name to the Audubon Arizona Bird Society, A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Monday January 25th, 2021, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 4715 N.
