Peter Wertheim Obituary

Peter Squires (Pete) Wertheim

Phoenix - Pete passed away from Glioblastoma on May 24, 2020 at the age of 49. Born to Chris and Jack Wertheim on November 10, 1970. He is survived by his loving wife, Dr. Adela Grando, his mother Chris Wertheim, his father Jack Wertheim (Cathy) and brother John Wertheim (Amber).

Pete served as executive director of the Arizona Osteopathic Medical Association (AOMA) from June 2014 to January 2020 where he impacted the lives of many people with his warmth, humility, and generosity and elevated the organization to heights that previously seemed unattainable. He served as the national president of the Association of Osteopathic State Executive Directors. The Phoenix Business Journal recognized Pete with a 2019 Most Admired Leader Award.

Pete was awarded a doctorate of humane letters from A. T. Still University and earned a master's degree in the science of healthcare delivery from Arizona State University and a bachelor's degree in journalism from Northern Arizona University.

The family requests that donations be made to the Arizona Osteopathic Charities in Pete's name at www.azdocharities.org to be used for scholarships for osteopathic medical students attending medical school in Arizona.

No services are planned. Pete wishes to spend eternity in Argentina, a place he often visited and where his wife's family lives. His ashes will be spread there at a later date. May his soul rest in peace! He will continue to live in the memory and in the hearts of all those who admired and loved him.

Pedro:

Regrets, not doing this sooner. The news hit me hard and needed some time to collect my thoughts.

We met as rookie State Executive Directors at the American Osteopathic Association Annual. From the start it was like we were already buddies, like we knew each other for years. Not too often that happens. Forever, value our friendship.

We grew up helping each other become better association executives, and relied on each others experiences and insight. Forever grateful for those stiff drink and a peer group sessions.

When you met Adela, you were head of heels and knew from the beginning she was the one. I was so happy for the both of yall. Forever remember how awfully cute you two kids were trying to dodge cars here in Austin.

Going down to Florida! Forever appreciate that $20 I won off you for saying something weird during my presentation.

Prayers and Peace hermano.

Su Amigo,
Dave

Pete was such a great son both during his childhood and later in life. He found true love when he married Adela. They made such a great couple. He accomplished a lot in his professional career. At the end, he told me he was at piece with himself. Thank you all for your support and love of him.

Pete was an amazing man, an example of kindness and charity. He was a leader in the profession, and most importantly a true friend. He will be dearly missed.
