Ruthella Castillo

- - Ruthella Castillo, age 85, passed away on Good Friday, March 30, 2018. She passed away peacefully at home. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was the centerpiece of our family. She will be greatly missed. The love and memories will last forever.

She was born in Port Allegany, PA, on August 19, 1932. She received her R.N. degree from Philadelphia General Hospital. The stories told of that experience are legendary. She met her future husband, Robert Castillo, while working as a nurse in Omaha, Nebraska. She was only working there to save enough money to get to California. Robert married the love of his life while in Medical School at Creighton. The two of them just celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on August 28. Robert is originally from Belen, NM. The couple have lived in Albuquerque, NM, full time for the last 58 plus years. Robert practiced General Surgery and Ruthella decided to focus on raising a family of five children. All of whom graduated from college. The three boys are physicians. She was very active in the children's' schools. Her cowbell was a standard feature at all the high school football games.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Castillo-Mangold. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. R. Robert Castillo. Also, her children, Mary Elaine Castillo-Scullin and her husband, Bill, Richard Castillo and his wife, Debora, son-in-law, Christopher Mangold, Michael Castillo and his wife, Annette, and Charles Castillo and his wife, Jane.

"If mother says no - ask grandmother": grandchildren, William Scullin, Chessa Scullin-Matthews and her husband, William, James Scullin and Desiree, Matthew Scullin, Emily Castillo, Jenna Castillo, Bobby Mangold and his wife.
