Ryan Thomas Andersen Obituary
Ryan Thomas Andersen

Scottsdale - It's hard not to smile when we think of Ryan Thomas Andersen, even during this immeasurable heartache. This beautiful and compassionate man began his life journey on March 20, 1985, in Phoenix, Arizona. It ended far too soon on January 14, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer. Ryan leaves a legacy of love, his son Gavin; a legacy of joy to those of us fortunate enough to call him our son, our grandson, our nephew, our cousin, and our friend; and lasting treasures of his creativity and inspiration captured through his photography and film. A proud and successful cinematographer, Ryan caught the film and photography bug during his high school years at Arcadia, and went on to study film at Scottsdale Community College. He immediately began writing, directing, shooting, and editing short films that won awards resulting in him becoming one of the most leading filmmakers of Arizona by 2012. He went on to win the national Doritos Super Bowl contest with his commercial "Time Machine," which debuted during the 2014 Super Bowl and starred his proudest achievement, Gavin. Further proving his tremendous talent and vision, last year, his debut feature film "IM'perfect," won Best Arizona Feature and earned him, Film Maker of the Year. While being behind the camera was "his place," his happiest moments were spent with Gavin, his mom and dad, Brenda and Jim, and his girlfriend, Jane. His devotion to his family and friends rivaled the energy and heart that he put into his award-winning pieces of art. Ryan knew no stranger. He exuded genuine kindness, had the courage to follow his dreams, and lived with unrelenting optimism. "Rise and Shine!" he would say to those closest to him. And just like the sun, Ryan did. And he will forever rise and shine in our hearts as a reminder to live every day to the fullest. "Raising the Vibration of the World One Story at a Time" was Ryan's cinematography slogan. Ionically, his life story has done just that. Thank you for sharing your vision with the world, Ryan. From those of us who love you, rest sweetly - as sweet as the man we were fortunate to know. On Wednesday, January 24 from 2-4 PM there will be a memorial gathering at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 East Indian School Road Scottsdale, AZ 85251. In addition, there will be a celebration of Ryan's life from 7:00-9:00pm at Harkins Scottsdale 101, 7000 East Mayo Blvd Phoenix, AZ 85054. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the beautiful life of RTA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Reel Friends of the Phoenix Film Festival, at http://www.phoenixfilmfestival.com/reelfriends
