Shaphren, Susanne
59, of Phoenix passed away on December 18, 2009. Susanne was born October 16, 1950 in Phoenix, Arizona. She pursued her dream of being a writer, primarily of short form fiction. Her stories were printed in numerous print and online publications, including Children's Digest, Espresso Fiction, Golden Years and Jack and Jill, among many others. Her stories have been also been published in anthologies, including Mystery Writers of America presents Show Business is Murder and Mysteries Dreams and Darkness. Non-fiction pieces have appeared in The Writer and anthologized in My First Year in the Classroom. Before devoting herself to freelance writing, she was a reporter with the Glendale News Herald. More recently, she blogged under the names McDMom and McDougall. Susanne was preceded in death by her parents Jacob and Helen Shaphren, to whose care and comfort she devoted years of her life. She is survived by her brother Paul Shaphren, her beloved canine friend Mr. McDougall, and cousins Eve Lipschitz, Brent Shaphren and Todd Shaphren. A private memorial service will be held. This, her last story, was written by amateurs. We miss her prose skills, her wisdom, and more importantly we will miss her.
