Warren Albertus "Bud" Gay Obituary
Gay, Warren "Bud" Albertus
(Bud) Warren Alburtus Gay packed his bags and took off for Heaven on April 16, 2014 at 10:25 AM. He was 93 years old. Bud had been packing his pictures and all the cards and letters he had saved during his lifetime into his walker, saying he would be going... He never actually would say where when asked, but we just know it was to see mom, Frances E. Gay, who went to Heaven on May 26, 2012. Bud and Frances had been married almost 50 years. On October 20, 1920, Bud was born into a wonderful family in Shamrock, Oklahoma. I am sure that Leroy Gay and Dora Ethel Gardener Gay had no idea their baby boy would grow up to be awarded and honored with a Purple Heart on June 14, 1945, get wounded, and survive Malaria during World War II, serving in the U.S Army from 1942 thru 1946 as a Private First Class. Bud was also married to Nina Furmall Gay in 1948, who later passed away in 1963. Some of his many stories included being a relative of Jesse James, and we believe it! Bud loved talking about hopping trains and going all over the United States and doing odd jobs with his buddy. Most of all, he loved watching the western channel and reading western novels all the time. Bud worked for General Steel Casting Corporation in Granite City, Illinois in the 1940's and saved his pay check stubs, one of which showed him earning close to 700 dollars in one year. Bud also worked for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 31 years here in Arizona. Bud leaves behind his siblings, some of whom have preceded him in death: sisters, Grace Mills, Vivian, Louise, Bea; brother, Lefty; nieces, Carrol and Jodie; step children and loved ones Sandra Keefer, Charlie, Junie, and Shelley Dains; grandchildren, Michelle Reaux and husband Adrian and Charlie Boy Dains; and great grandkids Morgan Rae, Charlie Bob, Lily June and Grayson Bonjo. He will be missed by his family and the staff of Gayle's Manor where he spent his last almost two years, where he was so loved and cared for and is known as "The Chocolate Boy" for handing out See's Candy to all the staff (Joni, Tiffany, Lupita, Marco, Shelley and many others) and friends there. We love you Bud The Bear, Buddsie, and GG Grandpa...You are free! XXXOOO. A visitation will be held for Bud on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th Ave. Phoenix, AZ. 85009, with service to follow at 12:00 p.m.
