LOS ANGELES - George Carlin, the dean of counterculture comedians whose biting insights on life and language were immortalized in his "Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV" routine, died of heart failure Sunday. He was 71.
Carlin, who had a history of heart trouble, went into St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday afternoon complaining of chest pain and died later that evening, said his publicist, Jeff Abraham. He had performed as recently as last weekend at the Orleans Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas.

The man with the magic voice. He could say ANYTHING about ANYBODY, and yet make you laugh and speak the truth at the same time. I'm so thankful his spirit lives on in the tens of thousands of loyal followers who saw the true meaning in the message of his comedy - no matter if it was his infamous "Seven Words" or his final "It's Bad For Ya" tour. Forever a legend. Thank you, George.

He was a great philosopher, and experts expert, as a speaker, of life and did it in lay terminology, so any and all would be capable to decipher his meaningful content.

George: My mother (yes, George...MY MOTHER!)gave me your FM/AM album for Christmas one year and we both sat and howled at every word! Loved seeing you at Boston Symphony Hall. To this day, I can still quote many of your routines by heart, especially the "Hair" poem. I am now in my 60s but I will always be a kid because of you! Love you, Man!

George: I read the obituaries for you on legacy.com and they all said you died rather than "passed away" as you said in your lilting tone in your routine. You got what you wanted. I had the pleasure many years ago of sitting in Trenton New Jersey war memorial building to hear your latest routines. I had loved watching you on TV and was even more thrilled to see you in person. It was an amazing time. I miss all your routines. You certainly would have lots of new material now! For the rest of us: Death can never separate those bound together by the ties of pure love. George was the master! I will miss you dearly. Thanks for ALL the laughter.

Your humor helped me to keep a positive attitude as I was recovering from a very severe injury that nearly took my life more than 25 years ago, and it continues to do so to this day. Sometimes it seems like all I need to do is to hear you talking about how one shouldn't take things too seriously to take me out of feeling depressed. I will always be grateful, and I only wish that you were still alive to keep making people like myself feel the same way with new stuff. I know for sure that you'd have no problem finding material right now!

A well respected comedian who had his own style, one is missed. He captivated his audience as soon as he stepped on stage. By the time he finished his routine the fans were educated on race, politics, war and sex. He was way ahead of his time and he remained humble...unheard of these days....THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES GREAT ONE...PRAYERS & BLESSINGS

George,
You were simply a genius with balls with the right voice to carry it all out. You hit everything remedial to controversial in the best ways. You are my unmatched and unwavering favorite comedian. You went up to that stage to have a brilliantly constructed conversation with your people and you didn't act like you were up there simply to get laughs from anywhere. I respect you.

I've loved hearing you all my life, even through the hamper shoot when we weren't supposed to hear you or Cheech & Chong. Just last night, I needed to get unstressed, after some bad news, so I put on one of your CD's and you sure helped me through the rough patch. I could never thank you enough George! You were so brilliant, just brilliant. Say "Thank you" to your mom for making the right choice that day in the Doctor's office. I can't imagine how my life would've been without your humor in it to get me through!!!!!!!!! Really!

George Carlin was part of my holy trinity. Kurt Vonnegut and Neil Young are the other two. Life without George and Kurt is like a water glass that is 2/3 empty or is the glass just too big for Neil to fill? Peace in the next round George and may you never be forgotten by those who need your insight and humour.

For George...When he shucked the coat and tie for black T-shirts and jeans, grew his hair long and began to riff about those "Seven Words You Can Never Say on TV," George Carlin became more than just the countercultural comedian.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

GEORGE CARLIN was an extemely insightful and perceptive person who always commented with total honesty as he saw the pathetic human condition.
And, was able to take his quite sad view and use his genius to make us laugh with irony.
An avowed atheist / agnostic, it is startling to me how many people have submitted allusions to religion which he never believed in.
He was one of the most influential humorists / comedians of the 20th Century.
He is and will be missed by many.

There is nothing I can say to properly thank or praise this man and what he has done for me. For someone that I have never met, he has done so much for me without even knowing. I know that sounds corny and sad, but when I was a young man I was introduced to Mr. Carlin through a friend because he was "dirty" and cussed a lot. But I heard what he was saying between the "naughty" words. Mr. Carlin help me develop rational thought and to second-guess anything presented to me. And he did it while I laughed. A lot. He taught me to challenge everything from all sides. If I am against something, look for reasons I should be for it. If I am for something - look for the negatives. CIRCULAR understanding of everything. Needless to say this caused a lot of issues for not just my parents (thankfully fans as well), but teachers and bosses throughout the years. I know no one lives forever, but the idea(l)s do. This man will never die. In our hearts or our minds... and our questions.
My condolences for your lost - but it must be heartwarming to know that this man was so well loved by so many.
Thank you, sir. Thank you.
