McRae, John R. "Jack"
Loving husband, father, brother, son-in-law, brother-in-law, father-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend, died unexpectedly February 18, 2010. He was born April 14, 1946, in Evanston, Illinois, to George A McRae and Ethel Kraft McRae. He attended Wayne State College, Wayne, Nebraska, where he graduated in 1971 with a degree in elementary education. He met the love of his life, Carol, at Wayne State and they married August 1, 1970. After teaching, Jack found his niche in the bank card industry. He worked for 18 plus years for Discover Card in collections and customer service in Chicago, Scottsdale, Sandy, Utah, and Glasgow, Scotland, retiring in 2003. Jack was blessed to have been the father of two children, John Michael and Katherine Joy. They were the lights of his life and he was a wonderful dad. Jack loved golf, travel, exercise and his coffee and paper in the morning. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Carol; his son John Michael (Lindsay) of Hoffman Estates, Illinois; his daughter Katherine Joy of Scottsdale. Also surviving him are his brother Ron (Linda), his sister Wendy (Mark), and his brother Gary. He leaves behind his mother-in-law Nadine Schaffer, his brother-in-law Glen Schaffer (Theresa), and his sister-in-law Dyan Schaffer; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews many of whom knew him as "Uncle Pop." A memorial service will be held in the Kilgore Chapel at Valley Presbyterian Church, 6947 E McDonald Drive, Paradise Valley, AZ, March 13 @ 3pm. A memorial fund has been established.
