Jackson, Josephine
Josephine Jackson, 101 years old, born in Boley, Oklahoma, January 9, 1910 to the union of Eugene and Louise Hayes. Josephine grew up in Watonga, Oklahoma. She moved to Chandler, Arizona in 1937 with her late husband Ernest Jackson to do farm work. The Jackson family was one of the first African American families to live in Gilbert and Chandler. She was the house keeper for the Price and Bogle Family for many years. She helped with serving parties for Doctor Chandler, the founder of Chandler. She served on several Senior Citizen boards and received several awards for her community work. Josephine leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters: Maudean Arbuckle, Ernestine Johnson (Abe), Beatrice McFadden (Bob); a granddaughter she raised: Jackie Dickson (Skeet); one son: Leroy Hayes (Mavis); twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; twenty-six great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral service for Josephine will be held Tuesday, February 1, 2011 at 11:00 am at Desert Springs Church, 19620 South McQueen Road, Chandler, with a viewing one hour prior at 10:00 am. Meldrum mortuary handles the arrangements.
