Patricia Pauline Peterson Obituary
Peterson, Patricia Pauline
Patricia left this earth April 20, 2013, not due to illness but simply because she decided her life's work was finished and she'd grown weary. She was born January 15, 1921 to Charles Gaherity and Phyllis Gorrick Gaherity in Sydney, Australia and spent much of her early years living in England, France and Italy. When Patricia Gaherity was less than 20, she was evacuated due to the expected invasion of Australia by the Empire of Japan. She arrived in London, England with her Grandmother just in time to experience the Blitz (Battle of Britain). She always spoke of the drama of that time with all the bombs falling everywhere including an unexploded bomb in her front yard. Soon she and her Grandmother were able to return to Sydney via the Suez Canal with a 6 month layover in Cape Town, South Africa to repair torpedo damage to their convoy. She then met and married Marshall Peterson who was an American Naval officer who had been sent to Sydney after his ship was blown up by Japanese bombs. It was after her Dec. 29 1944 marriage that her real life's work began. Her first child Marshall Christopher (Chris) Peterson was born in Sydney. While her husband Marshall was transferred back to America, she and baby Chris had to wait for " war bride" transportation by ship. The family settled back into Monroe Wisconsin where Marshall had been a State Court judge before becoming a Naval officer. Marshall resumed his duties as Judge in Green County, Wisconsin until 1960 when the family relocated to Phoenix. Patricia dedicated her life and considerable energies to her family encouraging her four children and two of her grandchildren to become lawyers like her beloved husband Marshall. She was CEO, Managing Partner, life coach, spiritual advisor and support staff to her immediate and ever growing family. Patricia's siblings are scattered around the world. Her brother Michael. a well known artist, lives in Knightsbridge, London, England. Her brother Ken, an actor, lives along Great Barrier Reef, Australia. Her sister Jan resides in Norwich England. Sister Carla lives in Double Bay, Sydney, Australia, as does her brother Charles. Patricia traveled widely and visited her family whenever possible. She is survived by her children Christopher Peterson, Christina Peterson Sargeant, Timothy Peterson and Hon. Elizabeth Peterson Arriola and her Grandchildren Eden Lins, Chance Peterson, Dr.Paige Peterson Waite, Christopher Peterson, Brooke McFee, William "Pierce" Sargeant, Morgan Brittany Arriola, Michael Arriola and Chantal Peterson as well as two Great-Grandchildren: Max McFee and Lenon Lins. To those outside the family circle she was most known for her stunning beauty and magnetic presence. (The above photo was taken when she was 80 and yes, Katherine Hepburn comes to mind). Private family services have not yet been arranged.
