Andrew Leslie Metzger Obituary
Metzger, Andrew Leslie (Les)
October, 11, 1925 - June 18, 2013. Andrew Leslie (Les) Metzger passed away peacefully on June 18, 2013, surrounded by his beloved family. He was born in Scott City, Kansas, and grew up in Arizona and Indiana. He attended Phoenix Jr. College where he was captain of the basketball team. He was recruited by the University of Colorado in 1946 to play varsity basketball and was team captain from '46-'48. He graduated from CU with a major in business and education. Les had an opportunity to play professional basketball, yet chose, instead to play in the National Amateur Athletic Union. His team played in the first World Basketball Tournament in Argentina, finishing second. He began his career with Craig Chevrolet Company in the training program and worked diligently to eventually become the dealer/owner. He was proud to serve multiple generations of Arvada area families. He also served as a President of the Chevrolet Dealers' Association.

Les met his soul mate, Suzanne Brooke, at the University of Colorado and they were married August 13, 1949. For 62 years, they enjoyed living together in Arizona and Colorado. His heart was broken when Susie died August 18th, 2011.

He is survived by their three daughters: Lynne Metzger Sullivan, Denver, Jani Metzger McCarty, (husband Bryan), Evergreen, Brooke Metzger Fry, Scottsdale, AZ;
six grandchildren: Ben Parkes, NYC, Adam Parkes, Denver and JJ Sullivan of Denver, Hannah McCarty, Lakewood, Logan Fry, Seattle, WA, and Leslie Fry, Scottsdale, AZ. He had one great-grandson, Duncan (mother, Christine Thornton) Denver, CO.

Les was an honest, successful businessman, honored athlete, and genuine friend. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, watching sports, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He shared with us his wisdom, opinions, and a great sense of humor. Les Metzger was a good man, a devoted husband, a loving father, and a special friend. The Metzger girls invite you to join them in celebrating the lives of their parents, Les & Sue Metzger, Wednesday July 10th, 2013 at Rolling Hills Country Club, Golden, Colorado from 2-5pm.
