Ellars, J.W. "Bill"
J.W. "Bill" Ellars (86) Born on July 22nd, 1931 to Bernese and Harley Ellars in Tuscola, Illinois went to be with the Lord on November 5th, 2017 at Emerald Groves Group Home. Bill attended Philo High School and later The University of Illinois. Bill served in the Army prior to getting married to R J "Jo" Hause in 1956. They would later have two children Debra Nugent and Gary Ellars. Bill joined JC Penney and would work for them starting in the shoe department working his way up to store manager, district, and corporate offices. His career with Penney's would take his family from Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and then to Arizona where he would retire after a very successful career after 39 years managing a store, which he loved the most. Along the way Bill was the president of the Mesa chamber and would soon own and manage Discount Card and Party stores in Mesa and Apache Junction. In 2008 Bill sold the stores and retired to their Scottsdale home and later returned to Mesa. Bill was preceded in death by his brother Eugene Ellars, his sister Jane Miner, and daughter and son-in-law Debra Nugent (Dan). Surviving Bill is his lovely wife (of 61 plus years of marriage)RJ "Jo", son Gary (Pam), two granddaughters Deidre (Igor Hercegovac), Caitlin Werly (Jordan), and the Werly's 3 children, his great grandchildren Landon, Sloane, and Delaney Werly, and a 4th blessing on the way--Maverick. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful staff at Emerald Groves Central Group Home and Hospice of the Valley who all helped make Bill's stay as warm and comfortable as possible in his final days. The celebration of Bill's life, Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 16th, noon, at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary located at 6500 E. Bell Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85254.
