Ernestine F. Zaragoza
Phoenix - Tina Zaragoza passed away at 93, January 5, 2018 in her home in the company of her children, Steve, Gloria, Hector, Irene and Michael.
Tina was born January 12, 1924 in Duran, New Mexico to her parents, Serapio and Juanita Sanchez. Her husband, Cipriano Zaragoza passed in 1989. She was also preceded by a daughter, Cynthia in 1960. She is survived by her sister Merlinda and brother Julian (Socorro). Tina's legacy is to have nurtured and received the love, loyalty and respect of her husband, siblings, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Family was first and foremost in her life and she was pleased to see and experience her legacy passed on to her children, and to their children.
She preferred that interesting parts of her life not play an important part of her story. Things like playing basketball in high school in the '30s, working in Los Angeles during WWII in a factory assembling bombers, or traveling by train from Tolleson, Arizona to New Orleans, Louisiana to marry her Navy husband, back from combat in the Pacific during the war. And most importantly to her, helping to raise grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, who will have clear and warm memories of their Nana and "GG".
Tina was an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Phoenix. Mass in her honor will be said at Blessed Sacrament Church in Tolleson.
At her request, there will be no memorial service. A private internment service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley or a charity of choice.
