A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 1705 17th St., Wednesday, June 23 for Ernest R. Bordagaray who died June 18 in Bakersfield.
Ernie was born June 4, 1922, in Coalinga, CA, the seventh child of Dominique Bordagaray of St. Jean Peid de Port, France and Louise Devaurs of Merced. He served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as a Radioman 1st Class aboard the U.S.S. Indianapolis where he saw action in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he went to Fresno State and started his teaching career at Sultana Elementary School in 1949. In 1951, Ernie came to Bakersfield and worked 31 years for the Bakersfield City School District as a teacher at Lincoln Jr. High and Fremont Elementary, as a counselor at Lincoln and Colonel Baker, and as a principal at Casa Loma, Lincoln and Voorhies. Ernie was a n Elder for the First Presbyterian Church and served many years as an officer and board member of the Kern County Basque Club.
Ernie was predeceased by Lucille, his wife of 46 years in 2000. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Dominique and Kathryn Bordagaray of Bakersfield; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Brenda Bordagaray of Fresno; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Kelly Williams of Pueblo, CO; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Grover Waldon of Bakersfield; and son and daughter-in-law, John and Lisa Bordagaray of Wausau, WI; granddaughters, Margaret Bordagaray of Stowe, VT; Mary Bordagaray of Bakersfield; and Yvonne Franklin of Fresno; grandsons, Ricky, Michael and Brian Bordagaray of Fresno; Christopher Williams of Pueblo, CO; Joshua and Trevor Waldon of Bakersfield; and Ian and Adam Bordagaray of Wausau, WI; great-grandsons, Tristan Bordagaray of Stowe, VT; Aaron Green of Fresno; Dominique Brian Bordagaray of Bakersfield; and great-granddaughter, Treasure Franklin of Fresno.
Instead of flowers, a donation may be made in Ernies memory to the First Presbyterian Church Foundation, its Educational Scholarship Program, or to a favorite Charity.
