LEWIS BIER HICKS
September 4, 1930 - April 4, 2021

Lewis ("Louie") was born in Fresno, California. He served as a Corporal in the 15th infantry in the Army during the Korean War. In July of 1951, Louie married his high school sweetheart Phyllis Hall. In 1968 the family moved to Bakersfield to open up Happy Steak Restaurants and a Perko's Coffee Shop. When he was not working at the restaurants, he enjoyed lending a hand at the church, traveling abroad with friends and family or volunteering through the work and witness program with the church. Louie was an amazing husband, father, loving Grandpa, and Great Grandpa. He never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back.

He is now reunited with his beloved wife (Phyllis), his dear son (Kenny), granddaughter (Erica Hicks), grandson (Kevin Priddy), his parents, and brothers. Surviving loved ones: Brother Alvin, Children: Janell (Rick) Priddy and Larry (Sherry) Hicks. Grandchildren: Jennifer (Clint) Baird, Nikki (Mark) Creasey, Chad (Melissa) Brown, Sarah (Mike) Estrada, Brittany (Brian) Kaus, Kristen (Grant) Gee, Sean (Danika) Patterson, Heath (Alex) Patterson and Tyler (Brooklyn) Patterson. Along with 18 great-grandchildren, whom he loved to watch grow and attending their activities.

A special Thank You to our Adventist Health Hospice team, Jessica, Charity, and Chaplin Justin for their loving care that was given to our family during this time.

A viewing will be held on April 10, 2021, at 9:00 AM - 9:45 AM, Funeral to follow at 10:00 AM, at First Church of the Nazarene, 2801 Hughes Lane, Bakersfield, CA 93304.

When my family and I moved to Bakersfield Louie was one of the first persons we met at Church (BFC). He was always friendly and a pleasure to be around. He was truthful and you could depend on him for good advice. He would tell it like it is. Louie worked countless hours at the church and was a dedicated follower of Christ. Our family has happy memories of being at his restaurant and having good times there in a family atmosphere. He always had stories to tell and I will miss hearing from him and his practical wisdom. May he rest in peace in the loving arms of Jesus. I pray for comfort for his family that I know will miss him as will I.

Our sincere condolences from the entire Cordonier Family. Louie was one of my Dad’s best friends for well over fifty years. He was the one that got our dad interested in buying a Happy Steak Restaurant in 1971, in Camarillo. Dad used to work at the Alpha Beta as a butcher across the street. They used to have lunch together everyday. Louie loaned mom and dad 5000.00 to help buy their first of many restaurants.
Louie and our dad talked on the phone for a good hour every couple of weeks until our dad passed away, over a year ago. After dad’s passing, Louie continued to call our mom, to check on her.
Louie was such a kind hearted man. Our family is so thankful for the friendship and the wonderful memories.
Louie...Thank you for being such a wonderful friend. Please give Phyllis and our Dad a big hug. I’m sure you and Dad will continue your fun talks in heaven.
Rest In Peace Louie!

I met Lou at the gym a few years back. Everyone was always happy to see him and talk to him. Always had a smile on his face and always was able to put a smile on those around him.
