GOINS, JR. , Martin A. Martin A. Goins, Jr. , 89, of Marshall, died on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Goins was born on April 24, 1924, in Durham, North Carolina, to Martin and Eva (Whitted) Goins Sr. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific. On June 5, 1948, he married Mary Coles in Durham, North Carolina. He received his bachelor's degree with honors from West Virginia State College, and his master's degree from New York University. Beginning in 1950, he taught business administration at Morgan State College in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1955, he received an appointment from the State Department and was stationed in West Africa as an accounting advisor. In 1959 he was promoted to Comptroller of the Agency for International Development, United States Mission to Ghana, West Africa. At the time of his retirement from the Federal Government in1979, he was the Assistant Budget Officer of the Social Security Administration. He then joined the faculty of Bowie State University in Maryland where he served as Assistant Professor of Economics and Business, and as Coordinator of the Finance Curriculum until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Goins moved to Marshall in 2006 where he pursued his love of outdoor sporting activities. He also became a member of the Executive Club in Marshall, and was quite a jazz enthusiast. He is survived by his wife Mary of Marshall, children Dr. Martin (Julia) Goins III of Marshall, Pamela (Tim) Watts of
Baltimore, Maryland and Kevin (Tara) Goins of
Roanoke, Virginia. He is also survived by grandchildren, Charles (Kelly) Goins, Kiersten (Vivek) Goins,
Martin Goins IV, Jillian Goins, two grandchildren, Aaron Goins and Seth Goins. He was preceded in death by his youngest child, Gary Goins in 1979; and only sibling, Elwood (Doris) Goins in 1984.
Visitation will take place at the Craig K. Kempf
Funeral Home on Saturday, September 28, 2013, from 9AM-11AM with a funeral service taking place at 11AM with Reverend James Codde officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Family requests memorial contributions be made to the Calhoun County Relay For Life. Assistance with memorials is available at the Kempf Funeral Home. To the Goins Family, your loss is great but the Lord will wipe away all tears. Martin was a very caring, kind, trustins, and intelligent man whom I am glad to have met. My God cover you all during this time of grief. If there is anything that I can do call me. God Bless this family and know that Martin is in a better place. We will miss him but to know that God has him know doing all his financial matter even I feel better knowing that. Have peace and it all will be taken care of.
