Dr. Torrey C. Brown

Dr. Torrey C. Brown, retired physician and State of Maryland legislator/administrator died peacefully on Sunday, April 20th at Anne Arundel Medical Center. The Severna Park resident was 77. Dr. Brown was born in Chicago and came to the Johns Hopkins University Medical School in 1957. He remained at Johns Hopkins for his further medical training and joined the faculty as an Associate Professor of Medicine in 1974. In 1971, he was elected to the House of Delegates from Baltimore City where he became the Chairman of The Environmental Matters Committee in 1979. In 1983, Governor Hughes appointed Dr. Brown as the Secretary of Natural Resources. He was reappointed by Governor Schaefer in 1986 & 1990. Dr. Brown also served on Executive Boards for multiple Charitable and Non Profit organizations such as Family Health International (FHI), Triangle Park, N.C. FHI is a non-profit biomedical research technical assistance organization dedicated to contraceptive development, family planning, reproductive health and AIDS prevention around the world. Dr. Brown was also committed to the environment and was involved with Chesapeake Bay Trust, Chesapeake Bay Environmental Commission, Oyster Recovery Partnership to name a few. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Donna Brown (nee Marx), his sons: Therron (Lisa), Rafe (Joanna) and five grandchildren: Zachary, Kacey, Gabriel, Aidan and Jordan. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
