Andrew Quinn Obituary

On Thursday, May 6, 2021, Andrew Edward Quinn passed away peacefully at Brightview Avondell Assisted Living in Bel Air MD at the age of 95.

Two years after his family immigrated to the United States from Northern Ireland he was born in the spring of 1926, the fourth of six children, and raised in a north Philadelphia neighborhood. He attended Catholic grammar and high school and was an All-Catholic basketball player at Roman Catholic High School. He had a knack for hitting key baskets at critical times in many games. He was a sharpshooter and a master at the lost art of the "set-shot".

Upon high school graduation in June 1944, he was drafted into the Armed Forces for service in World War II and served as a B-29 tail gunner flying several missions in the Pacific. After honorable discharge, he completed his college degree at Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia. He was ever grateful to the GI Bill for college tuition, VA mortgage and VA medical care long after his active service. While on a post war weekend visit to Wildwood, NJ, he met and eventually married Sarah Jane Murray of South Philadelphia. Thereafter, they took up residences in Philadelphia, Baltimore, Bel Air MD, Yardley PA and New Hope PA. For more than 4 decades he was a top sales person of a national publishing company, mainly selling textbooks to Catholic schools.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jane and daughter Jane (William) Geary. He is survived by sons Andrew (Elaine) Quinn, Bel Air MD, Timothy (fiancee Kathleen) White Hall PA, and daughters Kathleen (Joseph) Soares, St. Johns FL, Colleen (John) McGoldrick, Perrysburg OH and Geralyn (Kevin) McGuffin of Cheshire CT. Also, sisters Anne Welsh and Rose Benner of the Delaware Valley PA.

Known as Big Ed or PopPop, he leaves behind 17 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. No birthday was complete without his rendition of "Happy Birthday" via phone or voice message. "Where Charity and Love Prevail" were words he lived by.

The family would like to thank the entire staff of Brightview Avondell Assisted Living for the loving care given to our father.

A future service will remain private as he has donated his body to the Maryland State Anatomy Board.
