On January 14, 2018, Chad Edward McCruden's extraordinary life of service and advocacy ended. Chad, son of the late John and Ann McCruden, is survived by his Brother Michael McCruden (Christopher Gardner), half brother, Gregory McCruden and a very large extended network of family and friends throughout the US and Ireland. Chad devoted his life to making the world better; he achieved great success and now leaves behind a rich legacy in the countless loved ones who were shaped by his love, humor and mentoring. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, Lighthouse Gardens of Bowleys Quarters, Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Department, 900 Bowleys Quarters Road, Middle River, MD 21220 at 12 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Chad's name to The Muscular Dystrophy Association, 8501 LaSalle Road, #106, Towson, MD 21286. www.RuckFuneralHomes.com

Chad was a tireless advocate for civil rights and equal opportunities for people with disabilities. For as long as I can remember, Chad served as a board member of the Maryland Disabilities Forum (MDF). He served in a number of MDF leadership positions, including Vice-Chairperson of the Board of Directors, Public Policy Chair and Nominations Committee Chair.

Chad also led a youth with disabilities leadership development initiative; he personally mentored many young people as they developed self-advocacy and leadership skills.

Whatever Chad was involved with he was "all in". He brought great passion, insightfulness and tenacity to everything he did. Chad's legacy is one of leadership, a deep caring for others and of taking action with honor.

We will miss you dear friend. May your family be comforted by your strength and a life well lived. May you rest in peace and abundant love.

Chad I will always remember our long interesting talks when we were both at MCIL and The League. Your knowledge about the issues faced by the disability community was amazing and you taught me so much. I also enjoyed hearing about your trips to Ireland. RIP my friend!

Chad was a dear friend, colleague and fellow systems change agent. He was a champion for all people in the cross disability community with no predisposition to focus all his energy advocating for just one particular population. Chad actively and successfully fought a system that many times did not serve or underserved people who found themselves in crisis. He was a lead officer and activists on the Board of the Maryland Disabilities Forum and provided guidance in organizing over nine gubernatorial, mayoral, and senatorial forums for candidates along with numerous other leadership development opportunities for young advocates in the disability community.

I will miss him dearly and there is a big hole to fill because of the impact he had on others. May God bless you Chad and your family. Rest in peace.
