Aldona “Ellie” R. Bercier

age 78, of East Chicago, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. A beloved mother, grandmother, and friend to many, Ellie brought light, laughter, and warmth to every life she touched. 

She is survived by five children whom she loved dearly, and she proudly raised six children in total. Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, Alfonsus & Guste Kardasius; beloved son, Richard Ratajczyk, and all her cherished dogs, who truly were her number one companions.

Ellie had a heart for people and animals alike. A true people person, she found joy in conversation, kindness, and making others laugh. She was never one to pass up a good joke and was always the life of the party.

Professionally, she worked as a CNA for over eight years, where her compassion and care left lasting impressions. After retirement, she devoted more time to the things that brought her joy: BINGO, arts and crafts-especially Diamond Dots-crocheting blankets for expecting families and friends, and creating her signature crocheted clowns. Her creative spirit and thoughtful gifts brought comfort and delight to many.

Ellie was a devoted fan of Kenny Rogers-his music often filling her home and heart. Her zest for life, strong love for her dogs, and giving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Solan Pruzin Funeral Home, 7109 Calumet Ave., HAMMOND, IN. A Service Celebrating Ellie’s Life will be held at 6:00 PM. Services conclude at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.
