Alene Kieft, of Portland, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on January 7th, surrounded by love. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose life was defined by selflessness and unwavering care for others.
Alene was predeceased by her beloved husband, John Kieft Jr.; her cherished daughter, Jeannine Kieft, and her dear brother, Chester Dombrowski. She is survived by her loving daughter Jacqueline Cartelli and Jacqueline’s husband, Douglas Cartelli; her three grandchildren, Paris, Dominic, and Gregg; and her two great-grandchildren, Vincent and Angelina whom she loved all so much. She is also survived by her three sisters, Mary Lou Marchinkoski, Beverly Oktavec, and Muriel Hannen, and her fourteen nieces and nephews.
Alene dedicated much of her life to service–both to her family and her community. She was employed as a secretary with the Middletown school system, a role she truly loved. She later retired from her position to devote herself fully to caring for her daughter, Jeannine. Alene was very involved with St. Pius Church, where she continuously volunteered to help with church events and funerals.
Alene had a rare gift for putting others before herself. She was always there to help, to care, and to love. She leaves behind a lifetime of love that will never be forgotten.
She will be deeply and forever missed.
Funeral Services were privately held at the State Veterans’ Cemetery. Biega Funeral Home had care of the arrangements. Those who wish to honor Alene’s memory can make a donation to Hole in the Wall Gang Camp, 565 Ashford Center Rd, Ashford, CT 06278.
