Alice McKenna Obituary

Alice Elizabeth McKenna passed away on September 30, 2015 – just 11 days shy of her 96th birthday. She was born on October 11, 1919 in Yonkers, NY. For the first 61 years of her life she resided in Yonkers and then, Irvington, NY. In 1981, when she retired, she and her husband moved to Arizona to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren.
As a young professional woman during WWII, she also served as an air raid marshal for her apartment building, attended USO dances to help others get through the pain and trauma of war and babysat children on Saturdays so that other working women with children could get food and run errands to keep their families running. She married the man she loved, Daniel McKenna, in 1945 when he returned from the war.
During her lifetime Alice was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, executive assistant, grandmother and great-grandmother. To each role in her life she brought her whole self and shewas always there for others. Alice was known for her beautiful smile and warmth by all and for the unconditional love she had for everyone in her family.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle McKenna, grandchildren, Jennifer E. McEnaney and Richard M. Joos and great-grandchildren, Kelleigh and Sarah Joos, Avery, Emma and Matthew McEnaney. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Daniel, and her great-granddaughter, Kate Elizabeth McEnaney.
At 2:00 p.m., October 14, 2015, a service in memory of Alice will be held at Friendship Village, Nunnenkamp Building, at 2635 E Southern Avenue, Tempe AZ 85282. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a gift to Hospice of the Valley, 2525 E Southern Avenue, Tempe AZ 85282.
