Alton Aga, “Paw Paw”, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 7, 2024. He passed away
peacefully, with Punkin by his side, at age 92 in Navasota, Texas.
A gathering of family and friends will take place Tuesday, March 12th from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Lindley-Robertson-Holt Funeral Home. A celebration of Alton's life will follow at 11:00 am. He will rest eternally at the Oakland Cemetery in Navasota, Texas.
Serving as pallbearers are Drake Jackson, Forrest Fisher, Hagen Jackson, Todd Singletary, Kevin Busa,
John Busa, and Heath Sutton. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Eickenhorst and Scott Butler.
Alton was born on August 12, 1931 in Waco, Texas to parents Tonnes and Tillie Aga. In 1948, he was enlisted into the service where he became a decorated Marine. He received many honors during his time: Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, Presidential Citation, Good Conduct medal, United Nations medal, and Korean Service medal with three awards. He was honorably discharged in 1952 after an injury sustained where he was one of two survivors in his platoon.
In 1976, Alton married the love of his life, Dollie. It was love at first sight on a blind date arranged by one of Alton’s co-workers. The two together built a life with Dollie’s children. What a special life it was. They enjoyed many adventures together such as a springtime garden, fishing,
local dancing at the VFW, and Go Texan cookoff. For his work, Alton spent 25+ years working in the Etymology department at the USDA. It was after retirement that he and Dollie went on two of their greatest “shenanigans”: buying the Four Queens and “The Ranch” in old Washington.
Punkin refused to let them get old on her.
Paw Paw never met a stranger. He was a friend to many. He always welcomed you with a hug and if you were lucky, a kiss on the cheek. Friends and customers would agree that he was the kindest and most gentle man they knew. Always willing to share a cup of coffee and one of
Busha’s famous desserts. His pride and joy was sharing and making memories with his grandchildren. They collected bugs and snakes, climbed trees, bird watched, and loved to fish. In his last few years, he enjoyed playing games with Hagen and visiting with his great
granddaughters. He was looking forward to meeting his next great grandson due at the end of the month.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Dollie Aga, father Tonnes Tharaldson Aga, mother Tillie Larson Aga, sister Margaret Ann Aga, brother Olbert Aga, brother John Aga, brother Loyd Aga, brother Ralph Aga, and brother Marvin Aga.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Punkin Fisher, son in law, Kent, daughter, Debbie Walkoviak, son in law, Jerry Walkoviak; grandchildren Christi Bashioum (Heath Sutton), Drake Jackson, Forrest (Whitley) Fisher, and Tori (John) Busa; great-grandchildren Hagen Jackson,
Harper Bashioum, Skyler Busa, Riley Busa, and soon to be Ford Fisher; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank his caregivers who were more like companions: Brenda Henson, who he enjoyed drives in the country with, trips to Dairy Queen, dancing to old country music, and garage sitting listening to Willy 98.7, Katie Wheatfall, who he enjoyed late night westerns
with, football on Sundays, solving puzzles on Wheel of Fortune and her special chicken and vegetable casserole, and Courtney Gehrmann, who he enjoyed many slumber parties with, day dates, and karaoke on a nightly basis.
In lieu of usual remembrances, the family has suggested memorials in Alton's name to Navasota VFW Post 4006 at 1575 W Washington Ave Navasota, Texas 77868
