Amos Bird Duncan, Jr
Leesburg FL
DOB: 7/11/1933
Age 91
Amos Duncan, of Leesburg FL, passed away suddenly on Thursday, December 5, 2024. Amos was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Amos was born July 11, 1933, in New Castle, IN. Amos was a graduate of Carmel High School in Carmel, IN and attended Purdue Univ School of Engineering. After his service in the US Army, Amos worked for the Department of Defense as an engineer at Naval Avionics, Allisons and Martin Marietta until he retired in 1989. Not one to twiddle his thumbs, Amos then worked part-time for Home Depot and Ace Hardware, Clermont Fl, for another 20 years. He enjoyed his co-workers and sharing his vast home repair knowledge with the customers.
Amos was an exceptional woodworker, avid reader and talented banjo player; unfortunately, his worsening eyesight over the past few years made those activities more challenging. Amos also enjoyed puttering, as he would say, in the yard and flower garden. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family and friends. Amos was known for his kindness, compassion and good humor.
He was predeceased by his parents, Amos Bird and Catherine Creola Duncan, his stepmother Rosa Myrtle Duncan, his first wife Lola Jeanette Duncan, his brother, Jerry Edward Duncan and sisters Donna Jean Quinley, Hazel Louisa Jennings and Ruby Alice Painter. Amos is survived by his wife of 41 years, Carol Anne Duncan, his daughters Catherine Duncan and Karen Hamm, stepdaughter Elizabeth Tharp, sisters Shirley Reagan and Tanya Bush, and his nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Memorial services to be announced at a later date.

I am so sad to know Amos is no longer with us. I remember when he came to our class and was always a
soft-spoken intelligent person with a smile on his face. He was kind and helpful to everyone. We all became a nicer class because of his presence.
What a loss for everyone who knew him. I will always remember him and knowing him made me a better person.

Well, how do you sum up a life.. Well you can't. Amos was my dads only brother, and my uncle. For me he was always and smile and a good wit. Always supportive and well spoken. He was extremely smart, which you could tell immediately if you scratched the surface by asking him a technical question or showed interest in on the very amazing things he did during his career as an engineer. To my father, he was a best friend and confidant. They had conversations regularly. And after my mother died, he checked in on his brother frequently. They were both of a unique breed. Not perfect (as no one is) and a product of the time and childhood they grew up in, but they were great husbands and providers.Die hard Purdue fans. I was lucky to have some lovely conversations with my Uncle Amos after my father died and before he passed, which cemented in my mind what a sweet man he was. You will be missed.

Gramps as he is known to us, was such a wonderful and sweet man. He became my bonus dad the day he married my mom 41 years ago. He was such a strong role model for me. He became the best Gramps when my 3 kids came along and has enjoyed being a GreatGramps to his 4 great grandchildren. He will be missed. We love you bunches
