Anselm Montgomery Obituary

Anselm “Frog” Montgomery, 71, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away peacefully January 20th,2026, at home surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born May17th, 1954 in Lexington Mississippi. Anselm was the beloved son of Rogers Sr. and Flora Montgomery.



Anselm, left Lexington, Ms. with his family at the age 8 years old and moved to Springfield, Il. Anselm graduated from Springfield High School in 1972. After high school he completed Trade School, working various jobs such as Fiat Allis and so on. He later retired from Springfield Mass
Transit after 16 years of dedicated service. Where he was admired for his reliability and warmth.


Throughout his life, he was known affectionately by family and friends for his unwavering faith, gentle spirit and devotion to those he loved, especially Christ. Known for his love of antique Cadillacs and Classic Western TV shows, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life and
shared that joy with everyone.


Anselm leaves behind a rich legacy of love and inspiration. He is survived by his Mother, Flora Montgomery, his devoted significant other and Best Friend of 8 years; Cassandra Brooks, his brothers: Lathan (Brenda) Montgomery, Adolph (Barbara) Montgomery, Leonard Montgomery all
of Springfield, IL. His sisters: Zinda Montgomery-Davis of Brandon Ms.,Aslee (Sean) Haynes of Pearl Ms. 1 Aunt: Mussett Epps of Lexington, Ms. A host of nieces and nephews and fur baby girl “Gabby”. 


He shared a deep bond with his beloved granddaughter Jermana McKinnie and grand son Stephon McKinnie, who he raised as his daughter and son. (3) grandchildren, (9) great-grands. While he will be deeply missed, his spirit and love he shared will continue to resonate in the lives
of those he left behind. 


Anselm was preceded in death by his Father: Rogers Montgomery Sr., Brother: Rogers Montgomery Jr. Daughter: Markeshia Johnson, 2 granddaughters: Vanna Mckinnie, Dasha Mcgillberry and Sister in Law: Cherri Montgomery.



As we gather to honor Anselm’s remarkable life, let us remember him not only for the legacy he leaves
but the light he brought into our lives!
