Anthony ‘Tony’ A. Zizzo

1952 - 2020

Anthony ‘Tony’ A. Zizzo obituary, 1952-2020, Homer Glen, IL

Anthony ‘Tony’ Zizzo Obituary

Anthony A. “Tony” Zizzo, 68, childhood sweetheart and loving husband of 46 years to Kim Ellen Zizzo, devoted father to Anthony (Melissa) Zizzo, Joseph (Loveleen) Zizzo and Jessica Zizzo (Patrick Woodruff); proud grandfather to five grandchildren Brianna, Anthony, Cameron, Vince and Ava; dearest son to Phyllis and Vince Zizzo; cherished brother to Irene (Jack) Davies, Celeste (late Richard) Hayward and Steve (Krista) Zizzo; dear uncle to several nieces and nephews.

Born and raised in Chicago, Tony settled in Homer Glen where he raised his beautiful family. A proud union electrician of Local 134 for 40 years, he would be the first to tell you the date of his retirement from The University of Illinois at Chicago.  Once the big retirement happened, you would often find Tony golfing with his father, fishing with his friends, playing drums to the Beatles and of course having a good laugh with his wife. Tony was the biggest super fan in the south suburbs of Chicago. You could catch him on any given day with a Miller Lite in his hand, watching his beloved Sox, Bulls, Blackhawks and of course, Da Bears. The king of dad jokes and always ready for a good time, Tony was the happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family.  Gone from us too soon, Tony definitely lived his life to the fullest and will be missed by so many.

A memorial service will be held for immediate family, with a gathering to celebrate his life occurring some time in the future once it is safe to do so.

As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to Americares Covid 19 Relief fund (https://secure.americares.org/site/Donation) in Tony's name.

Tony was the one who encouraged me to keep playing the piano and never doubt myself.. I will never forget the positive impact he had on my life. Most of all, I will miss stopping in Pelican's just to visit my kind, gentle friend with the fun loving sense of humor. May God bless you, Tony.

Tony and i go back a long way...i had just moved into the neighborhood...maybe the late 60's early 70's not quit sure, but i thought i was getting pretty good on the guitar, and needed a drummer, well, it wasn't long before i ran into Tony and heard that he was pretty good as well. I remember one of our first jams was on 65th street in the basement...the louder we played the cooler we were ! until Mr. Zizzo or his mom would come down and tell us to turn it down ! yea i remember....the years through high school, Marquette park ! those were some pretty great times ! talk about freedom...? well, the marquette disciples will tell ya ! What a name for a bunch of kids that were anything but disciples ! i think big Whitey came up with that name...anyway, went on to hang out with Tony most of my life, and after about 10 years or so...were were starting to sound pretty damn good ! at least that's what they said.... we always kept in touch. and when ever i needed a drummer and asked him to come out and play ? he was always there ! Kim would tell ya....in fact whenever i needed anything, like electrical work, he'd be there ! i guess that's just the kind of guy he was...simply...GIVING ! gonna miss ya pal......

Mr. Zizzo was one of the greatest. Whenever I was down he always would just sit and listen and then tell me what he knew I needed to hear to puck me back up again. When I told him I was going to take my real estate class he became one of my biggest supporters. Actually no matter what I told him I was going to do he was always one of my biggest supporters. He was a kind and caring man and I will miss him very much. Sending love and prayers to his family.
