Archie Currie Obituary

Archie Neal Currie, 78, passed away peacefully on July 7th, 2021 at his home in Trinity, TX with his family by his side.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Arch Currie and Henrietta Donner Currie.  He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce Holly Currie; his five children, Neal Currie and wife Ttione, Sue Reininger and husband Mickey, Kevin Currie, Christy Kohut and husband Bob, John Roberts and wife Raenie; his nine grandchildren, Bailey Currie, Holden Currie and wife Alana, Colin French, Archer French, Lilly Sizemore, Cynthia Sizemore, Marshall Sizemore, Katherine Roberts and David Roberts; his nieces and nephews; and the rest of his family and friends.

Archie was raised in Trinity and graduated from Trinity High School in 1960.  After attending SHSU, Archie moved to the Houston area where he worked as a Journeyman Pipefitter out of Local 211.  Deciding to follow his passion for construction, Archie moved back to Trinity and began building numerous houses and businesses in his hometown.  In 1981, he shared his love of construction with the students of THS.  He and his students built a home from the ground up and were able to sell this home for a profit for the school.  In 1982, Archie went to work for TDCJ as a Carpenter Foreman, moving up the ranks to Inspector and then transitioned into Construction Management, where he oversaw all construction of new TDCJ prison units over the north half of Texas.  Prior to his retirement in August of 2000, Archie had successfully achieved his rank of Chief of Inmate Construction for the entire state of Texas.  2001 brought Archie out of retirement as he and his wife decided to open Archie's Restaurant on the River to showcase his love of cooking and family.

Archie's personal passions in life were plentiful.  He loved hunting and fishing, especially deep-sea fishing. Although he was a man of few words, he was a gifted storyteller, and everyone paused to listen to his grand tales of past adventures and family histories.  He loved having family gatherings and spending time with his wife and children, but mostly he loved playing with all his grandbabies.

Archie will be honored in a celebration of life at River of Life Church in Trinity on July 21, 2021. The viewing will take place at 10:00 AM and the funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, with graveside services to follow.
