Arlene Boeve Traber was born June 2,1935 in Sioux Center, IA to Raymond and Margaret (Heemskirk) Tamminga. Her family lived in Northwest Iowa until moving to Bellflower, CA in 1950. She attended School until age 17 when she began Working at Superior Milk Producers. At age 19 she began working in the Polio Ward at the hospital for LA county. During this time, she met Everett Boeve, who was stationed in Long Beach with the Navy. They remained in touch and when he returned from his tour of duty to Northwest Iowa, it became a long-distance relationship. Arlene would go to Iowa and stay with relatives so she could see him. The two were married on Aug 18,1961 in Lakewood, CA. They moved to Doon, IA and farmed. In 1963 they moved to a farm located near Hills, MN and then in 1975 they moved to a farm north of Woodstock, MN. During these years Arlene helped on the farm and worked as a CNA in Hills, MN and Edgerton, MN.
In late 1994, Arlene’s father became ill, and she went to California to care for him in his home. While there, Everett became ill and passed away suddenly in 1995. After Everett’s passing, Arlene returned to California to care for her father until his passing. She then remained in California and went to work at Bixby Knolls, an assisted living facility. It was here she met Oscar William (Bill) Traber Jr. They were married on June 4, 2003, and eventually moved to Vista CA. They enjoyed going out for dinner, taking in concerts and dancing, but also traveling in their RV across the country to attend grandchildren’s graduations and weddings. When Bill’s health declined, Arlene cared for him in their home until his passing in 2018. In all her years, she gave 45(+) years to caring for people. She always joked that she especially loved caring for older people but never wanted to get old. After Bill’s death she returned to the Midwest and moved to Sioux Falls, SD and lived at Trail Ridge Senior Living Community. There she met and made many good friends. She enjoyed playing cards and games, going for a milk shake, and attending various activities with these friends as well as enjoying a glass of wine with them during their "Happy Hour”. She loved her Trail Ridge Family and called Trail Ridge her "HOME". She lived her last days at the Luverne Hospice Cottage where she passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years, 10 months, and 13 days.
Arlene was married to Everett for 34 years and was blessed with 4 children whom she is lovingly remembered by: Gary (Gail) Boeve of Woodstock, MN, Becky Rozeboom of Sheldon, IA, Vicki (James) Kruisselbrink of Woodstock, MN, Mark (Lori) Boeve of Edgerton, MN, 28 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and her brother Bob (Cathy) Tamminga of Boise, ID.
