Arthur James Elder age 91 was born in Taney County, MO on February 3, 1929 and departed this life on April 13, 2020.
Arthur was a lifelong resident of the Reeds Spring area. He was a member of the Laborers’ Union of Springfield and worked as a heavy construction worker on road crews.
He was a member of the NRA and the Trappers Association. With a love of the outdoors he was a “legend” as an avid hunter and trapper. Arthur loved to mentor and teach the younger generation all about hunting and trapping, encouraging them to keep up these traditions.
Arthur and his wife, Truda loved Bluegrass music and years ago would often load up and meet friends at Bluegrass Festivals.
When not out in the woods he could often be found at Dinky’s Diner drinking coffee and swapping stories.
Arthur is preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Elder and Pearl (Brown) Little; one son, Howard Ray Elder; one grandson, Richard Preston Elder; one granddaughter, Melissa Sheridan; five brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Truda Reva (Tennison) Elder; two sons, Randy Joe Elder and wife, Norma and Dwight James Elder and wife, Marsha, both couples of Reeds Springs, MO; one sister, Norma Phillips of Scappose, OR; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 9 great great grandchildren.
Arthur (aka Pops) to those closest to him leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Graveside service for Arthur will be held Saturday, April 18, 2020 at the Eisenhour Cemetery Spokane, MO at 2:00 p.m. with Tom Potter officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Parkinson Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home Kimberling City, MO.

Arthur, Truda and family, have been dear, dear friends of ours since my parents owned the Western Auto store in Reeds Spring!! Upon our closing, we built a new home, up close to where they lived, we have so enjoyed reconnecting, and enjoying the stories he told as well as, talking about family, and friends we both shared and knew, from years back, and now!! He was so enjoyable to talk with, and be around!! Ron, as well has learned so much from him, along the trappers field!! Our hearts are broken, and hurting but, God has a much better place for him, visiting with my dear Dad, as well as some of his family, and friends!! We'll meet again, dear friend!!! Love, huggs, and prayers to Truda and family!!!! The Alden Hembree, and Ron Lewallen families
