Arthur Luverne Floan

1934 - 2019

     Arthur Luverne Floan, 85, died on Saturday, December 14, 2019 at Scofield Place, Benson, MN.  Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at 1:30 p.m.  at West Zion Lutheran Church, rural Hancock with visitation on Monday, December 16, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Zniewski Funeral Home and continuing from 12:30-1:30 at the church on Tuesday.

 

      Arthur Luverne Floan was born on January 13, 1934 to Paul Odin and Olga (Erickson) Floan on the family farm in Langhei Township, Pope County, Minnesota.  He attended District 65 school near his home and was a lifelong member of West Zion Lutheran Church.

     On July 10, 1954 he married Mavone O. Nelson at Barsness Lutheran Church, rural Glenwood.  They lived on the family farm and milked cows, raised pigs, and farmed the land. They were blessed with their 5 children.   In 1984 they moved to Benson where he began a 29 year career as a bus driver for the Benson Public Schools.  He loved farming and even after moving to town, he continued to help his daughter and son-in-law farm their land.  He loved being on the tractor doing tillage and especially running the combine.   He was so happy that with a boost from his son-in-law and friend, he was able to combine corn one more time this fall.

    Art learned to weave rugs from his aunt and acquired her looms.  He wove rugs for gifts, family, special orders, Prairie 5 in Benson, and many area churches for their fund-raising events.  He was very particular and the materials had to be prepared correctly so there were no lumps and woven tightly with straight edges.  He loved playing cards and had a group that he played with on a frequent basis.  Many exciting games were played around the kitchen table.  He loved his furry friends.  He and Murph, his dog, were favorite visitors at Meadow Lane Healthcare Center and Scandi Haven Village.

      Art is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mavone, his five children:  Susan (Duane) Hopp of Benson, Larry (Sherri) Floan of Alexandria, Ann (Roger) Frevert of Big Stone City, SD, Peggy (Rick Nelson) Floan of Hudson, WI, and Connie (MIke) Lee of Benson; and honorary son and daughter, Reid and Barb Foslien of Benson;   grandchildren:  Sara (Pat) Revier, Brent (Shannon) Floan, Katie Mattilla, Paul (Haley) Floan, Tina (Bill Skappel) Redepenning,  Heidi (Joey Marquardt) Redepenning,  Jonathan (Kari) Jaeger, Aimee (Burt) Yardley, Jordan (Hannah Williston) Lee, Briana Lee, 14 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Brekin, Tiana, Hunter, Caden, Kaliyah, Ava, Logan, Kyle, Andrew, Audrey, Lucy, Payton, and Addison, and nieces and nephews.  Art was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Odin and Olga, sisters Pearl (Waldo) Lagred,  Eleanor Floan, and brother-in-law, Ardell Nelson.
