Arthur G. “Artie” Lowe, Sr., Providence Fire Department (Ret.) 98, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully, on December 16, 2018. He was predeceased by his devoted wife of more than 60 years, Elsie (Wetherell) Lowe and his brother, George H. Lowe, Jr. and sisters, Helen Blair and Grace Keegan. He was a son of the late George H. and Mary A. (Smith) Lowe. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Lowe of Boston, Massachusetts and his son, Arthur Lowe, Jr. and wife Joan of East Greenwich. His grandchildren Cara (Lowe) Rooney and husband Peter (son Jack) and Erin (Lowe) Smith and husband Edward Smith, Jr. (daughters Madeline and Avery) all of East Greenwich.
Part of the “greatest generation”, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and attended Officer Candidates School at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill where he played multiple sports representing the Marines. He served on the USMC Honor Guard and took the presidential train for the trip from Washington, DC to Hyde Park on April 13, 1945, guarding President Roosevelt’s body. He later went on to serve on the Providence Fire Department for 23 number of years.
He loved to laugh, tell stories, dance, candy and most importantly, spending time with his greatest joy in life, his great-grandchildren, Madeline (5), Jack (4) and Avery (8 months).
Funeral Service Thursday, December 20th at 10:00am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Burial with military honors will be in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Calling hours: Wednesday, December 19th 5-7pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, RI.

I will never forget my wedding with your Mom and Dad. They always had a good time theywill be missed.
My wedding was in N.J. 53 yrs ago. Rest in peace.
