Asuncion Medina (lovingly known as Choncha) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 in Riverside, CA surrounded by her family.

Born on August 5, 1948 in Tijuana, Baja California to parents Antolín Enríquez and Dolores Cuellar, she was the seventh of eight children. Though born in Baja California, Choncha was a proud Jaliscience with her family origins based in Los Altos de Jalisco, in the city of Jalostotitlan.

Choncha spent her childhood growing up in Jalostotitlan before moving to the state of Aguascalientes. At a young age, her family relocated to La Habrá, CA where Choncha attended Walnut Elementary School and Washington Middle School. 

Choncha spent much of her youth traveling the world with her Mother and Sisters. Travel played an important role in her life, it is something she cherished and prioritized through the years.

Choncha met Luis Medina in La Habrá, CA and they married on March 27, 1977 and were married for 48 wonderful years.. Choncha and Luis had five children - Judith, Luis, Sergio, Lourdes, and Gerardo. She is survived by her husband, four living children, three daughter-in-laws and a son-in-law, 10 grandchildren (with an eleventh grandchild on the way), and two siblings.

Choncha was a woman of faith. She was known for being a warm-hearted and loving person, who opened her heart to everyone and served as a mother-figure to many. Choncha spent many of her days looking for ways to help people, and made a lasting impact on many lives. She was an incredibly strong person who took life head on without any fear. 

Choncha loved to laugh, dance, and engage in meaningful conversation. She loved to scratch lottery tickets, take a trip to the casino, watch live music, watch videos on YouTube, travel, learn new things, sow and knit items for her loved ones, and most important of all, she loved to spend as much time as she could with her family. Choncha’s passing leaves a massive hole in the hearts of all who loved her. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith and her ability to receive all with open arms.

Her family will live the rest of their lives, working hard every day to honor the unique, loving, and unrelentingly positive force that was Choncha. 

Rest in eternal peace, beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and woman of faith, Asuncion Medina.

Asunción Medina (conocida cariñosamente como Choncha) falleció pacíficamente el miércoles 28 de enero de 2026 en Riverside, California, rodeada de su familia.

Nació el 5 de agosto de 1948 en Tijuana, Baja California, hija de Antolín Enríquez y Dolores Cuellar, y fue la séptima de ocho hermanos. Aunque nació en Baja California, Choncha se sentía orgullosamente jalisciense, ya que sus orígenes familiares se encontraban en Los Altos de Jalisco, en la ciudad de Jalostotitlán.

Choncha pasó su infancia en Jalostotitlán antes de mudarse al estado de Aguascalientes. Siendo aún joven, su familia se mudó a La Habra, California, donde Choncha asistió a la Walnut Elementary School y Washington Middle School. 

Durante gran parte de su juventud, Choncha viajó por el mundo con su madre y sus hermanas. Los viajes fueron muy importantes en su vida, algo que valoró y priorizó a lo largo de los años.

Choncha conoció a Luis Medina en La Habrá, California, y se casaron el 27 de marzo de 1977, un matrimonio que duró 48 maravillosos años. Choncha y Luis tuvieron cinco hijos: Judith, Luis, Sergio, Lourdes y Gerardo. Le sobreviven su esposo, cuatro hijos vivos, tres nueras y un yerno, diez nietos (con un undécimo nieto en camino) y dos hermanos.

Choncha era una mujer de fe. Era conocida por ser una persona cálida y amorosa, que abría su corazón a todos y era una figura materna para muchos. Choncha dedicaba gran parte de su tiempo a buscar maneras de ayudar a la gente y dejó una huella imborrable en muchas vidas. Era una persona increíblemente fuerte que enfrentó la vida sin miedo.

A Choncha le encantaba reír, bailar y conversar con profundidad. Le encantaba raspar billetes de lotería, ir al casino, ver música en vivo, ver videos en YouTube, viajar, aprender cosas nuevas, coser y tejer para sus seres queridos, y lo más importante, le encantaba pasar todo el tiempo posible con su familia. Su fallecimiento deja un profundo vacío en los corazones de todos los que la amaron. Será recordada por su fe inquebrantable y su capacidad de recibir a todos con los brazos abiertos.

Su familia vivirá el resto de sus vidas, trabajando arduamente cada día para honrar la fuerza única, amorosa e incansablemente positiva que fue Choncha.

Descansa en paz eterna, bella esposa, madre, abuela, suegra, hija, hermana, tía, amiga y mujer de fe, Asunción Medina.
