FRAMINGHAM – Barbara A. (Tierney) Bugden, age 100, died peacefully, Sunday, July 9, 2023, in the comfort of her own home.
Born in Brighton, she was the daughter of the late Thomas F. and Abbie (Sullivan) Tierney.
She was the devoted wife of the late William F. Bugden, PhD, who died on March 27, 1994.
Growing up in Brighton, Barbara attended and graduated from Saint Columbkille School, which was just a couple of blocks from her childhood home on Elmira Street. Post high school, she attended secretarial school and later worked at the Federal Reserve Bank during WWII. Barbara met her husband Bill prior to the War, and they married upon his return home. Bill returned to Boston College on the G.I. Bill to further pursue his education, which led to a teaching job at the University of Scranton, where Stephen was born. Later they moved to State College PA and John was born in Bellefonte PA. After a few years they returned to Massachusetts and settled and raised their family in Framingham on America Street, which had been Barbara’s home for the past 70 years.
Barbara belonged to the St. Stephen Woman’s Guild, volunteered at St. Stephen’s School library for many years and was in the women’s bowling league. She also taught CCD classes in her home for neighborhood girls. Barbara was a talented baker, and her Irish Soda Bread, pies and cookies were popular. Barbara always gave of her time while caring for friends, relatives, and grandchildren. At the Bugden household, there was always an extra plate at the table available for friends and guests, as well as a couch or spare bed as needed.
In her later years, Barbara was involved with St. Linus Church Woman’s Mass and Rosary and she enjoyed attending Fr. Gigi’s gatherings.
Barbara is survived by her children, Stephen F. Bugden, Maura A. Yetter and her husband Edward, Mark Bugden and his wife Christine, and her daughter-in-law Elizabeth; granddaughters Megan, Leah and her husband McKenzey, Jessi, Katie, and Anchalina and her husband Greg; great grandchildren, Michaela and Chandler, and great great grandson, Forrest. Barbara also had a close relationship with her nephew, Thomas F. Tierney and his wife Marie, many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and a special young boy, Greysen Reed, who lives a few houses down the street.
She was predeceased by her son John J. Bugden, daughter in-law Anchina Chea Vickery Bugden, and her brothers Francis and Robert.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her funeral Mass, at St. Tarcisius Church, 562 Waverly St., (Rt. 135) Framingham, on Friday, July 14, 2023, at 10AM. Burial will follow at St. Tarcisius Cemetery, Framingham.
Visiting hours will be at Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street, (Corner of Union Ave.) Framingham, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, from 4 - 7 PM.

I knew her as Ms. B and would always give me and my sister candy and she would always buy our candy and whatever we brought to her door to sell. She was so sweet along with all the other neighbors. Ms. B and sally and Steve and Richard are still and will always be the best neighbors I grew up with.
