Barbara McIntosh Stewart, age 81 was born on March 25, 1943, in New Orleans, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Thursday, March 20, 2025. She was raised in the Tremé/Seventh Ward and received her early education at St. Paul’s Lutheran School. She later moved Uptown, where she built lifelong friendships that spanned over 70 years. A proud graduate of Walter L. Cohen High School, Barbara was a cheerleader and an active member of the Dramatic Arts Club. Barbara dedicated more than 30 years of service as a civilian federal government employee working as an Account Technician. After retirement, she spent over a decade at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, working at the Official Bandana Booth. Her love for her daughters and grandkids was immeasurable. She believed in them with all her heart, always seeing their potential and reminding them that the sky was the limit. Barbara had a deep love for sports, faithfully supporting the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans and was an avid fan of Steph Curry. A passionate music enthusiast, she enjoyed attending concerts-especially performances by MAZE. Barbara was a loving and devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her warmth, generosity and sense of humor will be greatly missed.  Her legacy will live on through her daughters, Yolanda Smith and Charlene Smith (Ben); granddaughter, Yasmin Matthews; grandson, Justice Smith; bonus sons, Edward Brian Smith and Stephen Smith; and Goddaughter, Janell Blackstone. Barbara’s life was enriched by the love and support of her “honorary brother,” Don C. Hubbard, and her “sister friends,” Carol Daniels, Carolyn Griffin, and Glenda Porter. She was preceded in death by her father, John Thomas McIntosh, Sr.; mother, Hazel Toussaint McIntosh; and brother, John Thomas McIntosh, Jr. We would like to give a special thanks to the EMT's and Trauma Unit doctors, nurses and medical staff at University Medical Center who cared and comforted her during her time of need.
