Bernard Berger, Sr. Obituary
On April 7, 1935, BERNARD HAMPTON BERGER, SR., was born
to Sarah and Russell Berger. Bernard was one of six siblings (Russell,
Erma, Ruth, Hilda and William).
Bernard was educated in the Baltimore City public schools. His
childhood was spent in the well known community of "South Baltimore",
where everyone was family and everyone knew everyone.
Bernard joined the United States Army in 1957 and after his tour
of duty Bernard and Annie B. were married. Bernard was an excellent
provider for his family, always making sure that they had all the comforts
to make a home a home. After serving in the Army, Bernard returned
home and began working for Maryland Fiber Company until he retired.
Bernard was a well respected employee and many of his co-workers looked
up to him. If ever there was anything that he could do to help a fellow
co-worker he was always willing to help. After retiring from Maryland
Fiber, Bernard grew tired of sitting home and took on a part-time job
at Food King super market. Again, Bernard was a star employee. He
worked at Food King until his health started to decline.
Bernard was an avid reader of books, newspapers, and magazines. If
he was not reading, he was watching television which he enjoyed doing
in the evening. Bernard's later years were spent close to home, the days
of hanging out with his buddies on the weekend and standing around on
the corners was over, he became a home body and we believe he enjoyed
every minute of it. He never complained.
Today, we are saying farewell to Bernard, but it will not be the last
hurrah, you see on Sunday, August 30,2015, there was a great celebration
going on in heaven. You see on this day he surrendered his life to the Lord
Jesus Christ at Harbor Hospital in the presence of his granddaughter,
Monica and great-grandson, Zion.
Bernard's memory will forever be alive in the hearts of his wife,
Annie Bertina; his children, Bernard, Debra, Denise (Peaches) and Leon
Rodney (who preceded him in death); grandchildren, Blake, Brian, Brandi,
Brittani, Debra, Jarvis, Mikaele, Monica, Rodney, Jr., Tia, Yvonne, Zion
and Zuri; great-grandchildren, Andre, Bryere, Brayon, Bryce, Debra,
Monica, Noah, Parker and Yvonne; God-daughter, Redese; siblings, Hilda
Alsup (Sister) and William Berger (brother). In addition to his parents, he
was preceded in death by his sisters, Irma and Ruth Berger and brother
Russell Berger. Bernard shared a special relationship with his nephews,
Bernie, Ronnie and Reggie. He is further survived by a loving host of
nieces and nephews.
