Betty Jane Carrier

1932 - 2021

Betty Jane Carrier, age 88 of Fremont, passed away at her daughter’s home on Sunday, June 13, 2021 following a short illness.  Betty was born on August 23, 1932 in Muskegon to Al and Florence (Andreag) Becklin and graduated from Muskegon Heights High School in 1950.  Betty married Orlo “Sonny” H. Carrier on November 9, 1951in Muskegon and Sonny preceded her in death on August 25, 2018.  Betty and Sonny wanted their children raised in the country and, soon after the birth of their third child, they purchased an 80 acre farm in Nunica. It was there that Betty and Sonny began dairy farming. Twenty years later, in 1975, she and Sonny purchased a farm in Fremont and they moved the dairy herd to the new farm where she continued farming until her passing.  Betty enjoyed reading Zane Gray novels, spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and spending time in the barn - milking cows and working on the farm.

Betty is survived by her children, Sheryl Carrier of Grand Rapids, Dee (Dale) Korson of Fremont, Pat (Chuck) Arends of Nunica, Dan Carrier of Fremont, Sam (Michelle) Carrier of Spring Lake, and Todd (Robin) Carrier of Nunica; 17 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; her brothers, Armand (Florence) Becklin of Fremont; Jim (Sophie) Becklin of Fruitport; Lloyd Becklin of Fruitport; Bob Becklin of Fruitport; Don Becklin of Grand Haven; her sister, Anne Carmean of Fruitport; several nieces and nephews.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Florence Becklin; her husband, Sonny; her grandson, Michael Carrier in 2011; her brothers, Gene and Ralph and sisters, Maylene, Virginia and LaDonna.

Private graveside services will be held at Mona View Cemetery in Muskegon following Betty’s wishes for cremation.  Friends may consider memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in memory of Betty.  Friends may send a condolence or share a memory with the Carrier Family online at www.crandellfh.com.  Arrangements by Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel.  231-924-0800
