Betty Jean Davidson, who friends and family affectionately knew as "Betty Boots," was born on March 21, 1929. She grew up in Marianna and later moved to Haynes, AR.
Betty attended Forrest City High School where she met the love of her life, Joe S. Davidson Jr. After graduating in 1947, she continued her education at Arkansas State Teachers College . She married her high school sweetheart, Joe S. Davidson Jr., in 1950 and they made their home in Marvell. Together, they navigated life's adventures until his passing in January of 1999.
Professionally, Betty was integral to the success of Davidson's Department Store and Cash N Carry Lumber Company. Her entrepreneurial spirit was complemented by her dedication to community service. Betty was a girl scout leader, an undefeated softball coach, and a devoted member of the Temple Beth El Sisterhood. Her hobbies included an extensive shoe collection and spending quality time with her family, supporting her husband in his various endeavors.
Betty passed away at the age of 96 on October 27, 2025, in Helena. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Joe S. Davidson Jr.; her parents, William "Speck" and Helen Hughes; and son, William Albert Davidson.
Betty is survived by her son, Joe Davidson III (Rhonda) of Helena; her daughter, Susan West (Robin) of North Little Rock; six grandchildren, Bert Davidson, Elizabeth Miller, Samantha Harrod, Jennifer Bach, Jacob West, and Shelby Davidson; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Jack Hughes of Haynes.
Contributions in memory of Betty can be made to the Marvell Civic Club at 905 Carruth St., Marvell, AR 72366. Her legacy of kindness, leadership, and community involvement will continue to inspire those who knew her.
