Billy Wayne Parrott, 79, died peacefully at his home on July 10, 2021 in McAlester during a summer rain shower that was punctuated by an extraordinary clap of thunder.
A memorial gathering will be held at Bishop Funeral Service in McAlester on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Bill was born on October 31, 1941 in Phoenix, Arizona to Houston Elsa Parrott and Lois Irene Nichols Parrott. Bill had four sisters and three brothers. Growing up, the young family lived in Arizona, New Mexico, California, and Oklahoma. They enjoyed the excitement associated with frequent moves and the robust interaction with family and new friends. The family always remained close across time and distance.
Bill and Ann Thomas Parrott were married on March 14, 1970 in McAlester, and soon relocated to the Portland, Oregon area where they maintained a home and business for over 25 years. It wasn’t long before they were joined by their new daughter, Juliet. They continued work in the auto industry and later branched out into real estate as well as metal roofing and siding. With retirement on the horizon, they relocated to Pahrump, Nevada before returning to McAlester.
He worked in the automotive industry most of his life, and loved collecting and restoring classic cars. Bill was an expert on everything concerning Volkswagens including models, restoration methods, and modifications. He and Ann maintained an impressive collection of rare vehicles and enjoyed buying, selling, and trading. They sold collectible cars to individuals across the country. Bill’s love for old cars was evident in the joy on his face and the gestures of his hands as he talked faster and faster…his passion was evident.
Bill was a good friend to many and was always available for advice, a cup of coffee, or to help with a project. He enjoyed car shows, auto swap meets, flea markets, and participating in formal and informal McAlester Cruise Nights.
He enjoyed cooking out, spending time with his family and friends, and napping with his pal, Squint the cat. He was proud of his wife and family, and particularly enjoyed watching the lives of his children and grandchildren unfold. He was their biggest cheerleader.
Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years: Ann Parrott of McAlester; daughters: Juliet Parrott-Merrell (Paul), and Tricia Pemberton (Peck); sons: Trevor Smith (Terri), and Tracy Parrott; three sisters; two brothers; 16 grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends.

Hi Dad, so glad whomever chose the picture for your obit remembered to pick one of you wearing a hat! I remember that you hated to go anywhere without one. Hope you enjoy your time in heaven and will be sure to send hearts and flowers (and maybe a little insight) down from time to time. As Paul and I often say to each other when we leave each other's presence, "See you later alligator!"
